Ultimately, the results of suffering either lead us to be bitter or to be broken and hopeful about the future. The end result will depend a lot on the questions you are asking. If the questions are why is this happening to me or why does God not love me anymore, then you are headed toward even more pain. If on the other hand you absolutely believe that the Father loves you no matter what, then the question becomes what are you trying to teach me about our relationship. This post from Desiring God is excellent:
“Several years ago, a close friend walked away from faith.
I still remember our last conversation about God, as she told me that he had not come through for her. She had prayed and asked him to change her situation, but things continued to get worse. She asked angrily, “Is this how a good God treats his children?” and went on to list all that God had not done for her, despite her faithfulness. She was tired of doing the right thing because it hadn’t gotten her anywhere.”
